-= on the 5th annual homelessness marathon =-

I've just gotten back on track in terms of sleep cycle; yesterday I went to bed at 8AM after staying up all night to hear first-hand, the 5th annual homelessness marathon.

It was one of those events that you see coming from a mile away, but still approaches quickly, and you just cross your fingers and hope that everything goes well. Although I helped with food last year, and did some volunteering as a technician three years ago, this was the first marathon that I participated on-air. Fiona and I co-hosted the 11th hour of the marathon, which was focused on Policing Poverty. It went really well!

Just half an hour before our hour, I met Jade in front of the native friendship centre. He was smoking a cigarette, and wondering how he might be able to speak on the air about his experience living on the streets of Montreal, pan-handling and doing sex work to get by. He brought a very important perspective to the discussion. It was an excellent mix of well-informed, researched commentaries on how police interact with homeless people, and testimonies from two men with first-hand experience of police brutality on the streets of Montreal. If you listen to it, let me know what you thought...
